RE: When ya leaving? Where ya crossing?

Leaving around 20th Pct this year for Outdoor Resorts Palm Springs via Grand Canyon. Should be crossing into Mexico aorund 15 Dec heading for Guad but taking a nip into Rocky Point first. Where is the best place to cross if heading to Rocky point first.
Best and fastest is to cross at Lukeville Az for Puerto Penasco. Don't bother with the vehicle permit ast it's not required for Sonora State. HOWEVER when going on to Guadalaraja, you will need to stop on Mex 2 (I think Kilometer 21 or something close) which is on your way anyway, for the vehicle documentation.
Great info. Without looking at my trusty map is KM 21 after Rocky Point heading south.
Thanks
Nope! The checkpoint is on MX HWY 2 going to Caborca about 18 miles from Sonoyta. Rocky Pointe is south on MX HWY 8....You can still get your all-of-Mexico permit at KILOMETER 98 on MX HWY 15 just south of Emplame. However you must have your tourist visa (FMT) for yourself and spouse in order to get the permit for your car and motorhome. So park behind the gas station, little shopping center, on your right before you cross the border in Lukeville. Walk across the border and on the right you'll find the place to fill out the paperwork for your FMT. Once that is done, you take it across the street and pay the bank and then back to the office on the other side and they'll stamp it for you then you just walk back across the border to your rv and off you go. Hope this helps you out.

RE: 10-year Hologram

Ed, by your post it seems you think you receive paperwork for your Motorhome when you leave Mexico. You do not, hence the idea of the 10 year permit. It would be nice if they would give you a 10 year permit on the TOAD also. But this is Mexico after all.
You only get the paperwork for the permit as you enter and purchase the permit. That you would keep in the motorhome at all times. When your 10 years is up or if you decide to surrender it earlier than that, you would turn in the permit paperwork and the sticker from the windshield and at that point you will get a computer printout stating the Year, Month, Day that you turn the sticker in. If you have a permit for your TOAD, then you would need to turn it in before you left Mexico as it is only good for 6 months. You would turn in your FMT at that time also if you had one, which you should unless you have a FM3. Hope this helps you out.

RE: Quality of the wifi at Tlaquepaque in Lo de Marcos

The answer to your question is si, the wifi is free or included with your monthly rent. And yes you do need to stay at least 4 months, unless they have changed something this past summer....
P.S.
I just love the way these threads are being HI-JACKED all the time...

RE: Quality of the wifi at Tlaquepaque in Lo de Marcos

Well, ED, as with anything YMMV. We are also returning there this year. Last year we were in site A2, this year we are in site A12. We never had a problem with the wifi at all. I think it may have gone down once or twice in the 4 months we were there. One of those times it was because somebody ripped out the phone line down the street. Their service is DSL. We had friends in the back forty who also never complained about their wifi service either. So good luck.

Since my first responce to this question was somehow shot into cyberspace. Yes we would still go SOB at least until the cost became more than we had income for.

RE: Toll roads to Puerto Vallarta

RoadRunner65, We enter every year at the Lukeville / Sonoyta border crossing and from there we only bypass one toll both by Guaymas. We are in a motorhome pulling fwd with the toad. Are tolls totaled $256 gringo dollars down and the same coming back. YMMV...:C

RE: Vehicle importation sticker at Empalme

It has been open for a few years now. As of March 29, 2008 you still can not turn your vehicle stickers in there. We turn our's in about 17 miles east of Sonoyta on MX 2.

RE: puerto-penasco mexico

For those of you who have stayed at Playa Bonita or The Reef, any idea on normal lead time to make a reservation? Say for two weeks in March or April
Otto,
Not to steal this thread, We are in PP at the present time from our return trip from down south in Lo de Marcos. We just showed up and are staying for 2 weeks. The rv park has about 30 or so rvs in it and has 300 spaces available....This is at Playa de Oro. I don't think you would need reservations here, that being said, you could make a reservation probably a month in advance if you chose to do so. We have been coming to PP for years on our trip down and back and this is the deadest we have seen it. Good luck!

RE: Hotel or Motel rates in Mexico

This may help you out. Do a google search for Hotels.com and punch in the city where you'd like to stay. I've looked and have found hotels in Guadalajara and Mexico City. Priceline dot com would be another place to look also. Good luck

RE: Hiway 37 from Caborca to Puerto Penasco

I originally posted this in Roads and Routes but haven't had a reply so I'll repeat the post here. We have friends that are leaving WH Kino Bay tomorrow and would like to take highway 37 from Caborca to Puerto Penasco. Is this a suitable route for a truck and 5th wheel?
Thanks
Michael
We do that route every year when we leave from just north of Puerto Vallarta in Lo de Marcos as we stop in Puerto Penasco to visit with a few friends before leaving Mexico. It is a much easy crossing at Lukeville than Nogales. Drive 55 and pay attention for topes...

RE: Add a Visited States Map to your signature

Ok, I have followed all the instructions to attach my picture to my signature and all I get is the box with the red x in it. The picture is 8.3kb and is 350 x 100. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Here is how I responded to a recent post with this problem.
Once the server has accepted your upload, that is all you can do. The red x is not a fault of anything you have done.
After an upload to a signature, some members have to wait a day or so before the picture will show, some have it show instantly, for some, the picture has disappeared after having shown for a few years.
It is all very frustrating, but to repeat, once the server has accepted you upload, there is nothing you can do ... except, I have a question in my own mind, does it matter which portal one enters?
I am sorry for the problem getting your picture to show; their is a long time "trouble ticket" for this problem. As of yet, there has been no cure.
Oh, BTW, you need not make another post to see if it is working. Any change in a signature will be reflected in all versions of the signature, no matter how far back you go. It is also reflected in the signature on your "My Profile" page.
I wish I could be more encouraging.
Tom
Ok, thank you Tom. There is one problem with My Profile. When I click the link it takes me to The Goodsam Club logon page...What's up with that? And if it doesn't take me there it gives me this message..

RE: Villa Celeste in Celestino

We went the way I posted on DEC 10th and again on DEC 13th, there was no "broken" cattle guard and the exit road off M15d is in good shape with plenty of room for our 65'+ 18T rig and toad. I think you may have the wrong exit or something.
You are right it was the KM 75 bridge...Oops sorry..

RE: Villa Celeste in Celestino

Stan or anyone. We are leaving Lo de Marcos area in a few days and would like to stay at Villa Celeste in Celestino on our way back north. Could you comment here on how to get to the park coming north on 15 or private message me if you can't comment here. Thanks. At km 78, north of Mazatlan exit to the right just BEFORE the overpass and then make a U turn up over the overpass. Follow the pavement through town(Celestino Gasca), but be careful of 2 very large topes, one just after the 1st left turn and the 2nd is just past the square. Go across the tracks and turn left on the gravel road, then as the Mexicans always say, derecho for about 3 km. Villa Celeste will be the 1st park on the right and the gate will be closed, just pull over to the left and walk in. The 2nd park is the new one and the 3rd is Celestino's, all within sight of each other. Safe traveling.
We were at Celestino on our way down to Lo de Marcos around Nov. 28th 2007. We took the toad into Mazatlan and when we came back we used the way "The Texan" has said. I don't know if they fixed it or not but you would'nt want to get off Mex 15D with your RV here. The reason being is the cattle guard is broken and it doesn't leave you much room for a car, let alone an rv...Just my opinion for you to evaluate. Having said the above, you can continue up the road to La Crus Elote exit and cross over the freeway and come back. It would be an addition 8 mile or so. But at least your rv will not be stuck in a cattle guard.....

RE: Policia removing license plates

Removal of your plates are a common practice in the Puerto Vallarta area. Just the other day I was walking on the main street in the town we stay at (Lo de Marcos) when a policeman asked me if a car was mine. I told him no and he proceeded to remove the plates. The car was parked in a no parking zone and it's plates were from the state of Nayarit, Mexico, owned by a Mexican local, ;)so it isn't just a practice they do to the Gringos........

RE: Returning Vehicle Permit in Sonora

They will hand you your permit for you to put on, but they DO come out to take it off.
I know you can get and turn in the "Sonora Only" permit at Empalme, south of Guaymas, and you can get the Federal TIP there too, so I'd think you could turn one in.
Not true as far as I am aware! We got our all of Mexico permit in November of 2007 at KM 98 in Empalme. I asked them if I can turn it back into them and was told no, "You need to turn it in at KM 21 or any other border exit that has the facilities to take the sticker back. They gave me a list of the border crossings. They were very specific about not being able to turn it back into them at KM 98. Two years in a :hrow I've been told this...

Tepic Bypass

Hola,
Does anybody have any current information about this bypass off Mx 15 at KM 33 towards San Blas and then South to Las Varas to meet up with Mx 200. Any info would be appreciated. I.E. (Condition of the road the bush and trees making the road narrower. Thanks.
P.S.
Before you tell me about it being on page 183 of the Mexican Camping Guide, I'm aware of all the book has to say about it and the On the Road in Mexico website. I would like firsthand information from someone who has been on the bypass this year.
;)
